You’re Getting Married! | What Now?

The day has come, you’re engaged! The wonderful news has made it from family to friends to colleagues to that sweet clerk at the grocery store. Now that the euphoric bliss of being engaged is turning to a romantic whisper it is time to talk about planning your wedding! I know it can be intimidating to take those steps from just daydreaming about this once-in-a-lifetime experience to actual “planning”, so first, take a breather! Before you jump into the exciting world of never-ending choices and decision making, take a week or two to really enjoy and savor this time with your soon-to-be. Now let's do this!

Choosing the Wedding Date |

A lot of different aspects can be considered when choosing the perfect day to marry your special someone. There is the sentimental dates, choosing a day filled with love and meaning. The day you two went steady or the day of your first date together or maybe the day he or she first said “I love you!” Also consider your favorite season. If wanting an outdoor ceremony and reception, maybe choosing a beautiful Spring day or the first cool days of Fall will be the best starting place. Narrowing the day down even more, your budget will help you to determine the day of the week and even the months in the year. Opting for the classic weekend wedding in a high-volume season may steepen your budget, especially on a Saturday, but the weekend can be more optimal for your guests with work and children in school. Also, the availability of that dreamy venue you’ve had your eye on may tell you all you need to know.  

Choosing the Venue |

There are certain traditions that can be forgone, the cutting of the cake, even the tossing of the bouquet, but a venue? A venue is the one thing you cannot skip. For some, it can be the most difficult of decisions. Consult with a wedding planner. An established planner is familiar with local spaces, as well as the capabilities each dreamy venue has and does not have. After clearly explaining your desired vision, your planner can point you in the direction of venues that compliment your elegant aesthetic. If you want a natural, rustic diamond in the ruff, you will not find that in an elegant ballroom. Consider the number of guests and the kind of experience you want your loved ones to have. You do not want to overcrowd or even under-crowd your venue. If holding a destination wedding, keep in mind the proximity of your guest accommodations to the venue.

Many question the need to devote a small part of your wedding budget on outside coordination, but let me tell you, the actual experience of attending your wedding is not something you want to miss! Having a coordinator ensures the most seamless, blissful day without the stress of wondering if the cake arrived or if your seating chart and table numbers are displayed correctly.  Set-up to break-down, your planner is behind the scenes handling any small obstacle that may arise throughout the day and immediately resolve them in a flawless manner. When it comes to a full days’ timeline, a planner can keep every memory-making activity in a flowing rhythm, leaving you to mingle and enjoy your guests.

Planning your wedding can be a demanding process therefore you want to work with someone that you trust and that fits you and your soon-to-be’s personality. He or she will be with you every step of the way to logistically detail each component, from budgeting and floorplans to scheduling tastings and fittings, ensuring no gem is left unturned.

Choosing Your Key Vendors |

The #EBS rule of thumb | Venue, Entertainment, Photographer!

With the endless variety of lovely vendors there are three that must be considered first and foremost. You want to lock in your desired wedding date with your dreamy venue as soon as possible. While a baker or florist can book multiple events in one day, a venue can book one and only one. The same is true with your photographer and choice of entertainment. Standardly booked as single individuals, they cannot be in more than one place on a given day, so it is crucial to reserve their attendance and services promptly.

Be Our Guest | McKenzie & Grant | Myrtle Beach, SC | EVENTS BY SANTANA

From the moment I met McKenzie & Grant, I could truly feel the warmth and the love that these two share for each other. She was an artistic bride with a unique, antique vision for their wedding day and he wanted her to have everything she envisioned - Grant was off to a great start for husband of the year!

Their wedding journey began with hand-painted wedding invitations designed by McKenzie herself. With warm tones of maroon, soft blushes of pink and vibrant hues of green, guests got a lovely peek to the color palette that would decorate their big day. That was just the beginning! Surrounding the hand-picked antique centerpieces were pops of maroon colored napkins which provided a gorgeous touch of drama. Authentic wood logs covered in moss, ivory candles, and greenery caught the eye as you entered into the venue. Each piece of decor brought a beautiful woodsy, yet soft whimsical feel to the entire event.

To show each guest a glimpse into the couple’s journey together,  an exquisitely rustic wooden ladder was draped with photos outlining memories from their first date to the day he proposed. Old window panes were used to debut the dinner menu, the bridal party names and our personal favorite, the bride’s hand-painted “Be Our Guest” welcome sign.

And then there is her ring! SWOON! <3

The evening ceremony kicked off outside in the picture-perfect garden of Pine Lakes Country Club. Cocktail hour was held on the club’s porch which offered a variety of selected craft beers close to the groom and a margarita bar for the blushing bride. The party was brought inside for the reception and to announce the newlyweds as Mr. and Mrs. Toth for the first time! After dinner and some dancing, everyone gathered around for the hilarious game of how well McKenzie and Grant really know each other! When the laughing finally came to an end, the show continued with the always fun bouquet and garter toss, but the party never stopped until the time came to send the couple off with the always exciting sparkler exit! As spoken by the theme of their gorgeous cake, “Let the Adventure Begin.”

I met Jenny & Amanda almost 5 years ago through a mutual friend. I could immediately tell they were amazing individuals and we instantly clicked! Our friendship quickly developed and each step of the way, their love for one another never ceased to amaze me! They are both so outgoing and loving with hearts of gold. 

We planned their wedding for almost 2 years and even had to move the date from a Saturday in October to a Monday in December due to Jenny’s deployment (United States Coast Guard). The winter wonderland themed wedding was one to remember. 

Magnolia Plantation Carriage House in Charleston, SC was the perfect location for the ceremony & reception. It was surrounded by over-grown oak trees, colorful gardens, and sat directly on the Ashley River. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens has been selected as one of “America’s Most Beautiful Gardens” by Travel +  Leisure Magazine

Jenny & Amanda are always the life of the party and what better way to prove that than to have mini fireball shots for guests at the end of your ceremony? It was a fun surprise for everyone, even the officiant pulled one out of his coat! 

The cocktail hour continued the excitement with a “shuck-it-yourself” oyster roast! After the guests cleaned up and took their seats in the Carriage House the bridal party stormed in with yellow Steelers “Terrible Towels” (Jenny’s family are HUGE Steelers fans).

After a southern-style dinner by Crazy Dutchman Catering, Jenny & Amanda cut into a rainbow layered cake decorated to look like white birchwood.  Followed by cake, guests enjoyed a bourbon & cigar bar on the back deck as the sun set over the river. 

Ryan of Globaltruth Entertainment, didn’t need much to pump up this wild crowd! It was a night full of dancing, drinking and good times!

Modern Southern Plantation Wedding | Charleston, SC | EVENTS BY SANTANA

I began working with Cristin & Jamie almost a year ago. We met for a Happy Hour meeting and immediately hit it off. We spent hours chatting about their dream day and getting to know one another.

She is a Jersey girl and he is Myrtle Beach bred - Two completely different worlds coming into one. With all of their guests traveling to their destination wedding, this meant our main goal was to make sure they experienced the real culture & life of Charleston, SC. Cristin & Jamie are such fun, outgoing individuals and wanted their wedding weekend to reflect their personalities.

The weekend started off with a Welcome Happy Hour Party instead of your typical formal rehearsal dinner. This was held on the rooftop bar of Stars, Charleston’s newest HOT SPOT! Guests were greeted with cocktails and hor d’ouvres as they entered the event.

Throughout the wedding planning process Cristin & Jamie battled many unfortunate situations – she had to get a new wedding rings 3 times, purchased a second wedding dress a week before the wedding because of over-altering and even had a groomsmen drop out last minute.  I was by their side the entire way and guided them through each turmoil.

The wedding day was held on Friday, November 4th at the beautiful Boone Hall Plantation. The day started off so perfectly as the sun began to peek through the clouds. All the vendors showed up on time and the event spaces came together so nicely. As guests started to arrive we slowly realized that the Pastor/Officiant was on the wrong limo bus! The Bride quickly found out and called me in tears asking what to do. We knew it would be an hour before the Pastor arrived and the ceremony could start. I noticed the catering company, Duvall Catering, had the hors d’ouvres and bar setup so I informed everyone that cocktail hour will be held prior to the ceremony.  Seamlessly, guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the Cotton Dock overlooking the Ashley River.  They all thought it was a new trend and so cool to have the cocktail hour first. This definitely calmed the nerves of the Groom and Groomsmen who were on site and got to enjoy a stiff drink before the ceremony.

The Pastor arrived and shortly after the Bride and her 10 BRIDESMAIDS showed and began walking down the aisle. It was an outdoor ceremony held under a gorgeous oak tree surrounded by glowing lanterns. The Bride & Groom wrote their vowels, little did they know the Brides vowels were typed backwards! Cristin laughed her way through and kept on moving.  At this point, everything was officially behind us and they could enjoy their night!

Paul Matthews, Paul Matthews Entertainment, led the guests and Bride & Groom into the night as Crytal, Crystal Lee Photography, captured every moment. Duvall Catering put together an amazing spread of shrimp & grits, filet and white truffle mac & cheese. They finished the evening with mini burgers & fries, a variety of mini pies and a decadent 2-tiered naked cake.

Cristin & Jamie exited the wedding with sparks of love through a sparkler exit tunnel.
