Spring Fashion

On Saturday, April 21st, EBS partnered with New Directions to create, dare I say it, the best fashion show on the Grand Strand. The 3rd Annual Compassion Through Fashion (CTF) at the Marriott Grande Dunes benefitted New Directions (ND) to provide food, shelter, safety, and hope for homeless men, women, children, and veterans. The ND team works to make sure that everyone who comes by the shelters can see and live up to their full potential.

Each CTF entry was required to create an exclusive, engaging and intriguing design for their models to wear as they walked the runway. But here’s the catch, all designs had to be made out of recycled materials! The participants this year used everything from ponchos to water bottles, bubble wrap and even comic book pages. Each design was truly unbelievable.

During the event, guests had the opportunity to bid on over 50 silent auction items ranging from hotel stays to concert tickets. 30 bottles of wine were donated by members of the community to be sold at the event for $12 each. Each bottle sold, paid for a homeless individual to have safety, shelter, and food for one night.

When our team first started on this venture alongside with ND, we set a goal to raise $50,000 for the shelters. By the end of the night, we had raised over $61,000 thanks to our sponsors, community members and generous donations! All of the proceeds will benefit the shelters in Myrtle Beach to help thousands of people reach their full potential.

Compassion Through Fashion gathered over 30 sponsorships, including two presenting sponsors, McDonald’s and Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina. These presenting sponsors each gave $5,000 to help make the 3rd Annual CTF a success.

To make judging our lovely participants fair, our team found 5 local celebrity judges to help us choose the winners. We had the pleasure of welcoming to the show the beautiful Meghan Miller of WBTW News13, the charming Thomas Davis of Collectors Café & Gallery, the charismatic Carl Kerridge of Carl Kerridge Photography, the infatuating Joujou Safa of Bijuju, and the elegant Kalina Smith of RK Consignments and Interiors, Inc.

Our 5 judges had their work cut out for them with our 17 amazing participants. Each participant offered a unique and entrancing design as they strutted down the runway to custom tunes played by our guest DJ Matt Hayward. Next year, the CTF team wants to have over 30 participants! We think we can do it!

Overall, we had such a blast planning this event. It was a huge success and we already can’t wait until the 4th Annual Compassion Through Fashion.

Spring in the South | Fashion Show, Hammock Shops Village | Pawleys Island, SC

Spring in the South, that’s what everyone dreams of, right?!??

Well, here in Myrtle Beach we get that pleasure more than just a couple months out of the year. I have worked with the Hammock Shops many times and had the pleasure of planning a breast cancer awareness fashion show for them a couple years ago. They were so pleased by the results, they asked me to do another one! I love planning Fashion Shows because there are so many fun elements that go into it, plus I get to be a girly girl :) Every woman loves to dress up and feel pretty so these shows are also such a fun experience for everyone.

This event started with an early March date, too late for winter, & for most places, too early for spring. LUCKILY, in Pawleys Island, SC the sun is always shining! Pawleys Island Hammock Shop Villages is full of clothing stores and handmade crafts by local artisans so it was important for me to portray that theme. So, “Spring in the South” is what it quickly became – beaches, sunshine, & cool breezy nights are just some of what you will find here on the East Coast.

The Hammock Shops has a beautiful gravel area with a gazebo, which is where the show happened in the past. It was our plan to host the event in the same location until the forecast changed our plans. We went back and forth as to cancel the event or move the date. Fortunately enough, a brand new restaurant in the shops, Porch at Prime, was just opening up – literally had their GRAND OPENING the day before the fashion show! They were generous enough to offer their restaurant as a place to host the event. How cool?!?! to have a Fashion Show run right through the middle of a restaurant?! This was a free event to guests anyway, so why not give them the option to grab some sushi and a cocktail while watching. As well, great exposure for Porch!

&& the show must go on!

After moving the event indoors, it actually turned out to be a beautiful, sunny day! HA go figure! I didn’t care! I arrived at Porch at Prime and it was so beautiful and fresh and totally matched our event theme! Plus, the idea of having something different, rather than your typical runway, was right up my alley! I’m always looking for fun, new ways to stand out from the crowd.

Yes, I have posted a million photos below, but I am so proud of these models for bearing the change and moving with the flow! We all had a great time and the day was perfect! Each store showcased their models wearing the newest styles & accessories. Raffles were drawn and gift certificates were given to guests enjoying the show. The music was laid back and entertaining, the photographer provided a paparazzi style shooting as the models walked through the restaurant! The show ended with mimosas & macaroons for all :)

Thank You to our vendors who as well made last minute changes and helped in making this show FANTASTIC!!
